Learning Goal: I’m working on a health & medical question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.please respond to the following discussion post as a peer making a comment. Religious and spiritual beliefs can affect medical decisions regarding patients and decisions on diet, medicine based on animal products, modesty, and the preferred gender of healthcare providers. However, I believe one of the main reasons is that patients choose their hospital according to distance, insurance acceptance and if their doctor has permission to treat at that facility. Even considering the national health service websites to review their patient satisfaction scores can also play a role in whether or not a patient chooses your facility. In addition, I believe spirituality and religion play a role in whether a person decides the hospital’s cultural competency in diversity is a crucial aspect of healthcare. Healthcare professionals need to understand that religious and spiritual beliefs play an essential role in a person’s medical decisions.Healthcare professionals must respect a person’s religious and spiritual needs. Understanding can reduce a patient’s anxiety, and often patients turn to their faith in challenging healthcare situations. Healthcare professionals need to discuss the religious and spiritual needs of their patients and evaluate treatment needs. Whether it be certain times for prayer, they can interfere with the treatment plan, and we should adjust our plans accordingly. Knowing the person’s belief system can help these providers communicate appropriately and be more sensitive to the patient’s needs and allowing us to reduce anxiety and provide better care. By doing so, healthcare providers can deliver and improve the quality of the treatment and even help patient outcomes. Spiritual and religious beliefs affect all quality of the person’s life, whether diet, holistic therapies, medications, and even end-of-life decisions. Having a better understanding of religious and spiritual beliefs and healthcare professionals going through cultural competencies can only improve the quality of care given at any facility.References:Smith, H., Currie, C., Chaiwuttisak, P., & Kyprianou, A.
